Stainless Steel Citric Passivation
At JACO Machine Works, our certified citric acid passivation enhances durability, quality, and lifespan without altering machining dimensions, making it safe for tight-tolerance applications. Our controlled chemistry, detailed recordkeeping, and strict adherence to lot control and traceability, allow for consistent and repeatable results. Our process is certified per ASTM A967 and ASTM A380 standards, and our certification is provided free of charge.
During manufacturing, parts are exposed to contaminants such as dirt, oil, grease, and microscopic free iron particles. These non-visible particles can prevent stainless steel from forming a complete passive layer. As a result, rusting may occur on the surface of the steel components.
Citric passivation is a chemical surface treatment specifically designed to enhance corrosion resistance and mitigate the impact of environmental exposure on stainless steel parts. During the passivation process, any free iron particles that may have been deposited on the stainless-steel surface during manufacturing are removed.
